CGI Window Installation: The Miami Springs Owner’s Guide
CGI window installation in Miami Springs typically runs $900 to $2,400 per opening, installed, depending on the series, size, and whether we’re replacing a failed unit or doing a full frame swap. We stock CGI-compatible hardware and sealants on our trucks, and in most cases we can complete a single-window install the same day we arrive. Most Miami Springs homeowners discover they need this work after a storm reveals a hairline crack in the glass, a window that suddenly won’t close flush, or a draft that wasn’t there last winter.
Here’s the thing about CGI windows: they’re built to take a hit, but the installation is what determines whether they actually hold. A window that was set wrong, flashed wrong, or sealed with the wrong product will fail long before the glass ever does. We see it all over Miami Springs, especially in the older homes near the golf course and along Curtiss Parkway where windows were replaced piecemeal over the years, sometimes by crews who treated an impact window like a standard pane.
Which CGI Models This Applies To
We install and service CGI’s full residential lineup, including the Sentinel, Estate, and Traditions series, plus the Commercial Series for storefront and mixed-use properties along East 8th Street. The compatibility gotcha most homeowners don’t know: CGI frames are engineered to tight tolerances, which means a replacement sash or glass pack has to match the exact series and production year. A 2014 Sentinel sash won’t drop into a 2021 Sentinel frame because CGI revised the interlock profile mid-run. If you can find the AAMA label on the frame edge, that gives us the plant code, series, and date, and we can match it down to the batch.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for CGI: we recommend OEM glass packs and hardware for anything still under CGI’s 10-year warranty, because aftermarket components can void it. For older, out-of-warranty units, we use high-quality aftermarket seals and rollers from brands we’ve tested in South Florida humidity. But the glass itself we always source to the original impact rating; there is no shortcut on laminated safety glass in Miami Springs. Not if you want to sleep through June.
Signs Your CGI Window Installation Is Failing
- Water staining at the interior sill or drywall corners. This usually means the original flashing was lapped wrong or the perimeter seal has separated from the substrate. Water finds the gap every time, and in Miami Springs’ rainy season, it finds it fast.
- The window is hard to open or close, or drops when you release it. Failed balance springs or worn rollers inside the frame, often accelerated by salt air and humidity. The glass is fine; the mechanics are shot.
- Visible light or daylight around the frame edges. The window was either set out of square or the frame has shifted. This kills your energy efficiency and tells me the original install wasn’t square to the rough opening.
- Fogging or condensation between the glass panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed. CGI units are argon-filled; once the seal goes, the argon leaks out and the window loses its thermal rating.
- Cracks radiating from a corner or edge, especially after a storm. That’s the impact layer doing its job, but a compromised unit needs replacement before the next storm, not after.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For a standard CGI single-hung or casement in Miami Springs, the installed price breaks down roughly like this:
- Insert replacement (glass pack and sash only, existing frame intact): $900-$1,400 per window
- Full frame replacement (old frame pulled, new CGI frame set, flashed, and trimmed): $1,600-$2,400 per window
- Custom sizes or geometric shapes (arch tops, radius corners, fixed picture windows): $2,200-$3,800 per window
Every quote includes the part, labor, perimeter sealing, interior trim restoration, haul-away of the old unit, and a written workmanship warranty on our installation. We don’t pad with hidden line items, and we won’t change the number once the job starts. Ed Winslow’s name is on the door, and on every job we do.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect the interior frame, check for loose screws on the operator hardware, and look for daylight gaps. You can also check the weep holes at the bottom of the frame to make sure they’re clear of dirt and leaves, which is a common cause of sill leaks in Miami Springs. What you shouldn’t do is pull the sash, mess with the tensioned balance system, or attempt to reset a full frame. Impact-rated windows are heavy, the balances are under load, and a dropped sash will break more than the tile floor. CGI frames are also sealed with structural silicone that has to be cut, cleaned, and re-bedded correctly, and the rough opening has to be flashed in a specific sequence. Get that sequence wrong and the next storm finds your drywall.

FAQs
A properly installed CGI window will last 20 to 30 years in South Florida, with the glazing seal and moving hardware being the parts that typically need attention around the 10- to 15-year mark. The laminated glass itself often outlives the frame if the installation was done correctly.
Yes, if the issue is the balance system, rollers, or perimeter seal. If the insulated glass unit has failed or the frame is cracked, replacement is the only structurally sound option. Call (239) 310-4121 and we’ll tell you honestly which camp your window falls in.
A single insert replacement usually takes our crew 90 minutes to two hours on site. A full frame replacement is typically a half-day job per window, including flashing, trim, and interior touch-up.
We stock CGI-compatible balances, rollers, handles, and sealants on our trucks, and we order OEM glass packs to the series and size so they arrive ready to install. We’re an authorized installer for CGI, as well as PGT, CWS, and ES Windows.
